City view of Las Vegas

RV Rental Las Vegas

Las Vegas is situated in a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert. Framed by mountain ranges on all sides, most of the landscape is arid and rocky, with desert wildlife and vegetation. The city itself is host to trees, lawns, and other greenery, however there has been a movement to encourage xeriscapes due to water resource issues.

Las Vegas is the most populous city in the state of Nevada and the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. As an internationally renowned resort city, it’s primarily known for its gambling, entertainment, fine dining, shopping, and nightlife.

Originally settled in 1905, it was officially incorporated in 1911. Its population boomed in the 1960s and then exploded between 1990 and 2000 when the population nearly doubled. Today over 2,200,000 people call the metropolitan area home.

The city is wildly popular with tourists who tout it as the entertainment capital of the world. Famous for its mega casino-hotels, it’s one of the top three destinations in the U.S. for business conventions and a global heavyweight in the hospitality industry. Today, Las Vegas frequently finds itself on “most visited tourist destinations” lists.

Getting there

You can drive to Las Vegas. The city is a major hub in the Mojave Desert with numerous highways leading in and out of it. Driving in the city is relatively easy for those accustomed to driving in any major city. You can also fly into Las Vegas. Harry Reid International Airport is located in Paradise, Nevada, and is the main airport serving the Las Vegas Valley. It hosts both international and domestic flights from some of the world’s most popular airline travel companies.Taking the bus is also an option. Both Greyhound and Megabus run coach services to and from Las Vegas.

Places to visit

  • Caesars Palace: Caesars is one of the last old-school Las Vegas properties still remaining and is the crown jewel of the so-called “Sin City”. Visit to bet a few chips on the decadent casino floor, browse the Forum Shops, take a dip in the lavish pool, or see a concert in the Colosseum.
  • Park Theatre: This showroom hosts the hottest resident performers on the Las Vegas Strip. Regulars have included Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Cher, and Aerosmith.
  • Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area: Littered with crimson cliffs and canyon trails, this national conservation area is an excellent way to get away from the city crush and get back to nature. Take a hike through the hills for a hands-on approach or rent an RV and drive the 13-mile loop through the park for the best of the scenery without exertion.
